How the connection works
REST API with scoped Bearer API tokens created in the Samsara dashboard (Settings > API Tokens), plus webhooks and Kafka streaming.
Samsara offers an official, read-only MCP server with 40+ tools across vehicles, drivers, safety, hours of service, DVIRs, routes and fuel. It can be added to Claude as a connector with your Samsara sign-in.
Samsara's MCP server is read-only; writes (e.g. creating routes) require the REST API.

Does Samsara have an official Claude connector?+
Samsara offers an official, read-only MCP server with 40+ tools across vehicles, drivers, safety, hours of service, DVIRs, routes and fuel. It can be added to Claude as a connector with your Samsara sign-in. We can turn that on for your team and build skills on top of it, or extend it with custom tools where it falls short.
What Samsara data can Claude work with?+
Through the API, Claude can work with vehicles/assets, drivers, vehicle locations/telematics, routes, dispatch, hours of service (eld) and more. We scope access to read-only wherever possible, and keep a person approving anything that changes records or reaches a customer.
Do we need a developer on staff?+
No. In a Claude Deployment Sprint we set up the connection, build the skills and train your team. You’ll need an admin login for Samsara and, if required, to approve API access with Samsara Inc..
Will our Samsara data be used to train AI models?+
We set teams up on Claude business plans. Anthropic does not use inputs or outputs from its commercial products to train models by default.
